New Dearborn Wal-Mart Carries Al Safa Halal Products To Attract the Large, Muslim Community of the Greater Detroit Area
The recently opened Wal-Mart Supercenter in Dearborn, Michigan has decided to attract the large and growing Muslim community of Dearborn to its stores.
Jordan Burke, co-manager of the Dearborn WalMart, stated that Wal-Mart is thrilled to have a store that caters to the needs of the Muslim consumers. Items carried include Al Safa Halal chicken nuggets, Al Safa Halal pizzas, Al Safa Halal beef burgers, chicken hot dogs and beef hot dogs.
The Wal-Mart is located at Ford Road and Mercury Drive east of the Southfield Freeway in Dearborn.
Nick Infante, Wal-Mart public affairs senior manager, said that Wal-Mart has been looking to come to Dearborn for many years. The store management met with the Arab American Chamber of Commerce and the Arab Community Center for Economic & Social Services in order to determine what products the community would be looking for.
In addition to the Al Safa Halal food products, the store carries over 550 items specifically for the Arab-American community. Dates are very popular, as is hummus and techina.
As one customer said while breaking into her Halal hot dog, “I feel like I’m back in Lebanon”.
